Catharsis
During 2004 Irena Ristic did an internship with medienhilfe. As a student in journalism in the Masters program at Vienna European Journalism Academy, she has now completed her final work: a 12-minute video production on the work of medienhilfe and productions of local media in Serbia and Croatia dealing with the recent past.
With expressive and intense images Ristic demonstrates how media in Serbia and Croatia ask vital questions about responsibility and guilt for war crimes, how they document them and how they confront the citizens with crimes committed in their name. She documents the importance of professional media for the cohabitation of peoples and nations – and she shows that only a catharsis, a conscious process of reviewing the past, can guarantee that this recent history will not repeat itself.

Media, War & Peace
is a 30 minute documentary in English, produced by medienhilfe in cooperation with Arhitel, Belgrade, on the occasion of Expo02 as part of the "Peace… another world is possible"-week. By means of original images of local TV stations in the Former Yugoslavia the film questions the influence of media on war and peace. Among the topics treated in this documentary are the possibilities of political media manipulation, the sensational value of war images, the difficulty of understand images and the role media played in after war reconstruction.
